Fairy circle

This is an original oil painting.
Created on 290gsm canvas paper.
The artwork has been varnished and has a thin white border around the edges to make framing easier.
A3 in size ( 29.7 x 42 cm, or 11.7 x 16.5 inches )

Sometimes you just want to curl up in a ball and make the world go away.
That's how I felt when I started this painting. Initially I had drawn her with hands all around, grasping at her. There was an evil undertone to the work, like she was surrounded by malevolence. I can never stay on anything dark for long though, so I decided to paint her within a fairy-circle. A ring of mushrooms. The Celtic and English have long believed these circles to be portals to the realm of fae. In this artwork there are runes ascending from the energy of the girl, and the circle. Although she does not know it yet, I think this withdrawal is akin to a seed, or a star-birth. Great pressure, but she is about to manifest a new fate.

Also, the meaning of the word fairy, it comes from "Fate". From the three, original Fates who spin our destiny in European myth. They are the past, the present, and the future.

This artwork is the transition of a breakdown to a glorious breakthrough. All is as it should be.
